My first rejection

As the title suggests, I recently received my first rejection from anesthesia school. When I opened the email, my heart sank. It made me question my capabilities and left me feeling discouraged. This is technically my first real rejection, as I hadn’t applied to medical schools before. The rejection came from the only out-of-state school I applied to—MCW. I had heard that the program tends to favor in-state applicants, but I still wanted to give it a shot. In hindsight, it was a long shot, especially considering they only accept 18 students each year, and I don’t have any ties to Wisconsin. But I’ve had some time to reflect, and I’m feeling better now. I remain committed to pursuing anesthesia. I plan to gain more shadowing experience and am also working on getting my medical technician certification to enhance my healthcare experience. I’m excited to work in assisted living facilities with patients. The application cycle isn’t over yet—I still have seven more schools on my list. I technically have until May 2025 to apply to programs that start in Spring 2026, so there’s still plenty of opportunity ahead! I’ve also registered for the GRE and will be taking it in the first week of December. I finished my fall classes with a 4.0 GPA, and now I can fully focus on preparing for the GRE!

  1. Hi Cassandra! I want to wish you luck in your application process! Also, I was wondering if you could share the info you have for the CAA you shadowed with.
